Description

Birch logs have an average height of 9 m with a diameter of 0.5 t 1 m. This means that those logs are rather small and therefore in veneer you will have a limited number of consecutive layons..

The birch is white to light brown in color, the sapwood is indistinguishable from the heartwood. The veneer is cut on staylog lathes, resulting in 10 to 25 cm wide books with a wild texture.

Sliced birch veneer has as typical characteristics: narrow strips of 8 to 15 cm and a higher price. In contrast to birch stay log rotary cut that has wider strips of 10 to 25 cm, a lower price but a wilder pattern.

Typical characteristics of birch roll veneer: pith spots (resulting from infestation of the cambium by a long-legged mosquito).
