Description

The 15-20(-30) m long log is straight and cylindrical, with a diameter of 0.7-1.2(-1.5) m. Small root attachments are often present at the base of the trunk.

 

Heartwood pinkish red, later discoloring to deep reddish brown. The clearly distinguishable sapwood, which can be up to 60-80 mm wide, has a grayish pink or yellowish pink color. The heartwood often has a beautiful golden sheen as is also found in Swietenia mahogany species.

 

Sapeli is used both solid and in the form of veneer and plywood for furniture, interior paneling, stair treads and stair trees (preferably sliced on quarter) and also for parquet flooring, turned goods and sculpture.
