Description

The trunks have an average height of 18-30 m, maximum 45 m. The log can reach 15 m in length and have a diameter of 1.2 to 1.8 m. The oak can reach an advanced age (400 years).

Oak has a yellow-brown colour. The wood has annular pores, which give a flame pattern when the log is sliced in crowns. The structure and quality vary according to the growing conditions. The down may contain mirror. Its grain is coarse. The sapwood of oak is white in colour and can be easily distinguished.

In general, however, oak is easy to machine, turn and mill, both by machine and by hand.

Oak has many applications: interior and exterior joinery, beams, luxury furniture (oak cabinetry), stairs, parquet flooring and many more.
