Maple has a cream to light ochre heartwood with a beautiful pinkish sheen.

The wood absorbs well. Lacquering and staining are not a problem. Only polyester lacquer slows down the drying process somewhat.

American maple sometimes also produces a beautiful rosewood (called Bird's Eye Maple).
Bird's eye maple is mainly used in the world of marquetry and veneer.
